David: Arthur, I need you to come to St. Jude's Memorial Hospital right away.
Lawyer Pendelton: David? Is everything alright with the baby? I heard she was in critical condition.
David: Something unbelievable happened, Arthur. She flatlined, the doctor called the time of death, and then she suddenly came back to life when Toby touched her.
Lawyer Pendelton: What? Are you serious?
David: Yes! But something weird is going on outside the room right now. The hospital administrator is arguing with Dr. Vance in the hallway.
Lawyer Pendelton: Don't sign anything, David. Do you hear me? Do not sign any papers the hospital gives you!
David: Why would they give us papers?
Lawyer Pendelton: Hospitals hate unexplainable events because they fear liability lawsuits. They will try to cover their tracks or force you into a non-disclosure agreement.
Sarah: David, who are you talking to?
David: Our lawyer, Sarah. He says we need to be careful with what the administration tells us.
Suddenly, the ICU door opened, and Administrator Sterling stepped inside, flanked by two security guards.
Administrator Sterling: Good evening, Mr. and Mrs. Miller. I am Arthur Sterling, the chief hospital administrator.
David: What is the meaning of the security guards outside my daughter's room?
Administrator Sterling: Due to the unusual nature of your daughter's medical event, we are placing this room under administrative hold.
Sarah: What does that mean? Is my baby sick again?!
Administrator Sterling: No, Mrs. Miller. Her vitals are stable. However, due to hospital safety protocols, we need you to sign these preliminary documents before we can allow visitors or discharge preparation.
Sterling placed a thick stack of papers on the small bedside table.
David: What are these documents?
Administrator Sterling: Just standard liability releases and a confidential settlement agreement acknowledging that the hospital provided proper care during the incident.
David: Settlement agreement? We haven't asked for any money!
Administrator Sterling: We are offering to waive your entire medical bill—over one hundred thousand dollars in ICU fees—in exchange for your signature on this non-disclosure contract.
Sarah: You want us to promise not to tell anyone what happened here today?
Administrator Sterling: We want to prevent sensationalized media stories that could cause panic or misinformation among other patients.
Toby: Daddy, that man is lying.
Administrator Sterling: Excuse me?
Toby: He told the doctor in the hallway that he was going to delete the video of my sister.
Sterling's face flushed bright red as he glared down at the seven-year-old boy.
Administrator Sterling: You shouldn't be eavesdropping on private administrative conversations, young man.
David: Get your hands off that table and take your papers back, Sterling.
Administrator Sterling: Mr. Miller, I suggest you think carefully before refusing this offer. If you do not sign, we will be forced to file a formal medical hold, keeping your daughter here for extended state psychiatric and neurological evaluations.
David: You are threatening to hold my newborn daughter hostage?!
Administrator Sterling: I am acting within my authority to protect the institution!
Right at that moment, Dr. Vance stepped through the door, holding a shiny black USB flash drive in his right hand.
