The Hidden Codicil

The giant screen refreshed, showing Richard Vance sitting in his library chair holding a thick stack of blue legal papers.

Richard Vance: If Victoria has been removed from the building, then my real legal instructions can now begin.

The guests sat down in the rows of velvet chairs, leanings forward to catch every single word.

Mr. Harrison: Members of the board, family members, and distinguished guests, please pay close attention. This tape carries full legal standing in the state court.

Richard Vance: Three years ago, I made a mistake. I married Victoria believing she genuinely cared for my family and my company. I was blind to her greed until my health began to fail six months ago.

Chloe: Dad... you knew all along.

Richard Vance: When I was admitted to St. Jude Hospital, Victoria immediately attempted to file emergency papers to take control of Vance Enterprises. She told the doctors I was non-responsive.

A woman in the third row gasped, turning to her husband.

Board Member 1: She tried to declare him incompetent while he was still conscious?

Board Member 2: That's why she wanted him isolated from the board!

Richard Vance: What she did not know was that my daughter Chloe came to the hospital every single night. She brought me real food, she held my hand, and she helped me record every conversation Victoria had in the hallway.

Chloe pulled out her phone, holding up a small silver drive connected to her keychain.

Chloe: I have thirty hours of audio recordings of Victoria planning to liquidate the company assets the moment my father passed away.

Mr. Harrison: And those recordings have already been submitted to the district attorney's office as of eight o'clock this morning.

Outside the glass doors, Victoria could be seen pounding her fists against the glass, yelling at the security guards who stood impassively with their arms crossed.

Victoria: Let me back in! My purse is in there! My diamond rings are in there!

Security Guard 2: Ma'am, if you do not leave the property boundaries, we will call local law enforcement for criminal trespass.

Victoria: I own this property! My name is on the deed!

Mr. Harrison: Actually, Victoria, your name was removed from the deed forty-eight hours ago under the revocable trust clause!

Harrison's voice carried through the external intercom system, making Victoria freeze on the concrete steps outside.

Victoria: What did you say?!

Mr. Harrison: Richard executed a full property transfer to the Chloe Vance Irrevocable Trust on Thursday morning. You hold zero ownership interest in this facility or the main estate.

Victoria: That's illegal! You altered the documents!

Mr. Harrison: Every document was notarized by three independent legal witnesses and signed under video verification. You have been completely cut out of the estate.

Chloe walked up to the podium at the front of the hall, adjusting the microphone as she looked out at the two hundred guests sitting in silence.

Chloe: My father worked forty years to build Vance Enterprises. He started in a small garage with two workers and built it into a regional powerhouse.

Board Member 1: Hear, hear!

Chloe: Victoria thought she could sweep in, fire his loyal staff, sell off our manufacturing plants, and pocket forty million dollars while leaving our workers with nothing.

Chloe: She thought I was just a frightened teenager who would take a small settlement and walk away.

Chloe paused, her voice hardening with absolute power.

Chloe: But my father taught me how to run this company. And starting today, I am taking his seat at the head of the board.
