The freezing winter wind whipped across the snow-covered balcony of the mountain resort estate, biting into Clara’s face.
Clara pulled her black lace veil tighter around her frozen head, her black dress fluttering wildly against the white snow drift.
Clara: Oh god... no, please no!
Marcus: Don't look down, Clara!
Clara: Marcus, my shoe slipped! I can't hold on!
Clara gasped in sheer shock and panic as the snow gave way under her heels, her body tipping backward over the icy railing.
Clara: Help me!
Marcus: I GOT YOU!
Marcus lunged over the white snowy balcony railing in his heavy black leather jacket, extending both arms into the freezing air.
His fingers clamped around Clara's wrist with raw, terrifying force just as her feet left the stone ledger completely.
Elena: Oh my god! Marcus!
From the doorway, Elena stood froze in her red dress, her face turning pale as she watched the desperate struggle.
Marcus: Grab my collar, Clara! Now!
Clara: I can't reach! My arm is slipping!
Marcus: You are not falling today! Pull!
With a desperate heave, Marcus pulled Clara safely up over the balcony railing, hauling her body over the cold steel bars.
They both collapsed onto the snow-covered floorboards, breathing heavily as the harsh wind roared around them.
Marcus pulled Clara into a tight, emotional embrace, burying his face into her lace-covered shoulder as she sobbed.
Marcus: YOU'RE SAFE NOW.
Clara: I thought I was gone... I thought he was going to kill me!
Marcus: I won't let anyone touch you again. Never again.
Tears streamed down Clara's face as she clung to Marcus's leather jacket in pure relief and terror.
Elena: IS SHE OKAY?
Marcus: She's alive, Elena! Get inside and lock the front gates right now!
Elena: I'm calling the police! What happened out here?!
Marcus held Clara's shaking hand tightly in comfort, rubbing his thumb over her frozen knuckles to bring back warmth.
Clara: It wasn't an accident, Marcus... somebody pushed me.
Marcus: I know. And I know exactly who paid them to do it.
Clara stared into Marcus's eyes, realizing the betrayal was deeper than she ever imagined.
