Evelyn: Get your filthy hands off my son's wedding suit.
Clara: Mrs. Vance, please. We are five minutes away from walking down the aisle.
Evelyn: You don't belong in this cathedral. You don't belong in this family.
Clara: Julian loves me. I love him. That is all that matters today.
Evelyn: Love? You're a penniless orphan who grew up in state care. You want his trust fund.
Clara took a step back, her fingers clutching the ivory lace of her gown. The white marble aisle stretched out behind them, bathed in bright sunlight streaming through the stained-glass windows.
Clara: I never asked Julian for a single dime. I work sixty hours a week at the clinic.
Evelyn: A low-paid nurse trying to trap a real estate heir. Do you think I'm stupid?
Clara: I don't care about his money or his family's estate. I care about him.
Evelyn: You think this marriage gives you access to our fortune, our name, our life?
Clara: I just want to marry the man who stood by me when I had nothing.
Evelyn: I will make sure he cuts you off completely. Not one cent of the Vance inheritance will ever go to you.
Clara: Keep your money. We don't want it.
Evelyn: You gold-digging trash!
Evelyn raised her hand and brought it down across Clara's face with a loud, ringing crack. Clara gasped, staggering back against the altar railing as heat surged across her cheek.
Clara: How could you...
Evelyn: You think you can talk back to me?
Evelyn lunged forward with sharp fingernails, grabbing the neckline of Clara's delicate gown and ripping the delicate lace strap downward. The fabric tore with a harsh, sharp noise, exposing Clara's left shoulder and collarbone.
Evelyn: MY SON WILL NEVER MARRY A WOMAN LIKE YOU!
Julian: MOM, STOP! WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!
Julian rushed out from the holding room, stepping directly between his mother and his crying bride. He shoved Evelyn back, his chest heaving as he wrapped a protective arm around Clara.
Julian: Have you completely lost your mind?!
Evelyn: She's a leech, Julian! Look at her!
Evelyn stopped mid-sentence. Her eyes dropped to Clara's exposed shoulder, locking onto a distinct, pale, star-shaped scar near her collarbone. Evelyn gasped sharply, her hands instantly trembling as the color drained completely from her face.
