The officer stepped forward, grabbing Victoria's arm firmly and pulling her hands behind her back. The sharp click of metal handcuffs echoed through the silent mansion.
Victoria: Ow! Let go of me! You're hurting my wrists!
Police Officer: Watch your head, ma'am.
Victoria: Mom! Don't just stand there! Call our defense lawyer! Call Uncle Richard!
Eleanor stood frozen, turning her head away in shame as her daughter was led down the marble steps in front of fifty wealthy guests.
Guest 1: I can't believe we attended a party hosted by criminals.
Guest 2: I'm canceling my contribution to their foundation tomorrow morning!
Guest 3: The Sterling family is completely finished in high society.
Maya untied her white serving apron, folding it neatly and placing it on the glass side table next to the diamond necklace.
Maya: Mrs. Sterling, your husband requested that I hand these documents to you personally.
Maya pulled a thick white folder from her briefcase, extending it toward Eleanor.
Eleanor: What is this?
Maya: Divorce papers from Arthur Sterling, along with an immediate freeze on all joint family bank accounts.
Eleanor gasped, her hands shaking so hard she almost dropped the folder.
Eleanor: Arthur is divorcing me?! Why?! I didn't steal the money!
Maya: The bank statements show that you signed off on Victoria's offshore fund transfers for the past two years, Mrs. Sterling. You were complicit in hiding the fraud from the IRS.
Eleanor: I... I didn't read what I was signing! She's my daughter!
Maya: Ignorance is not a legal defense against tax fraud and grand theft. The federal marshals will be arriving at eight in the morning to seize this property for asset liquidation.
Eleanor collapsed back onto a silk sofa, holding her head in her hands as she wept hysterically.
Eleanor: My home... my social standing... everything is gone!
Maya: You sacrificed your integrity for money, Mrs. Sterling. Now you have neither.
Maya walked away from the sofa, heading toward the main entrance. The other service workers, who had been watching from the kitchen doors, began clapping softly for her.
Kitchen Staff 1: Way to go, Maya!
Kitchen Staff 2: You showed them we aren't trash!
Maya smiled warmly at her coworkers, giving them a brief nod before stepping out into the cool night air.
A sleek black town car was waiting for her at the bottom of the grand driveway. The driver opened the rear door for her.
Driver: Excellent work tonight, Miss Lin. Mr. Sterling is waiting for your final summary report at the headquarters office.
Maya: Thank you, Thomas. Let's go finish this investigation.
Maya stepped into the back seat of the car, looking back one last time at the bright, glowing mansion. She could see police flashing lights illuminating the windows as guests hurried to their luxury cars to escape the scandal.
She touched her cheek where Victoria had slapped her earlier. The sting was gone, replaced by a deep sense of accomplishment and justice.
Maya: No one will ever treat working people like garbage in that house again.
