The Raid on Room 104

The Diamond Ring From The Graveyard banner

Arthur: Detective Miller, I need armed officers at Oakridge Sanctuary right now. It's an active kidnapping and medical fraud case.

Miller: We're dispatching three units immediately, Mr. Vance. Meet us at the front gate.

Arthur lowered his phone, his eyes cold as he glared at Eleanor, who was now surrounded by three venue security guards he had personally ordered to hold her.

Arthur: Hold her in the manager's office until the police arrive. If she tries to leave, use physical restraint.

Eleanor: Arthur! You can't do this to your own sister! Think of our family reputation!

Arthur: You stopped being my sister the moment you put my wife in a cage.

Arthur turned to Clara, taking her hand gently. The square diamond ring shone brightly between them.

Arthur: Clara, come with me. Leo, stay close to your father.

Clara: Is... is she really going to be okay?

Arthur: We're going to get her back tonight. I promise you.

Twenty minutes later, three black police cruisers and Arthur's SUV pulled up to the rusted iron gates of Oakridge Sanctuary, an isolated brick building surrounded by dense woods.

Miller: Mr. Vance, stay behind us until we secure the floor.

Arthur: I'm coming in with you, Detective. My wife is inside that building.

The officers kicked open the front doors, their flashlights cutting through the dark, quiet hallways of the unauthorized care facility.

Staff Member: Hey! You can't be in here! This is a private facility!

Miller: Police! Hands where we can see them! Where is room 104?!

The nurse at the front desk turned pale, dropping her clipboard as armed officers moved past her into the main corridor.

Clara: Down this hall! Second door on the right!

Clara ran ahead, stopping in front of a heavy wooden door locked with an electronic keypad. A orderlies inside were frantically trying to lift a frail woman into a wheelchair.

Arthur: Step away from my wife!

Arthur kicked the door frame hard, forcing the latch to snap open. He rushed into the room, shoving the orderly back against the wall.

Orderly: Sir, calm down! We were just transferring the patient for her safety!

Arthur: Shut your mouth!

Arthur dropped to his knees beside the bed. Laying on the mattress was a pale, thin woman with graying hair, her weak eyes squinting against the flashlight beam.

Arthur: Victoria... oh god, Victoria...

Victoria: Ar... Arthur...?

Arthur: I'm here, sweetheart. I'm right here. I'm so sorry... I thought you were gone...

Victoria reached out a thin, shaking hand, her fingers brushing against Arthur's tear-streaked face.

Victoria: Eleanor... she took... my phone... she told me you were dead...

Arthur: She lied to you, Victoria. I've been searching for answers for six months.

Clara: Mom...?

Victoria turned her head slowly toward the doorway. When her eyes landed on Clara standing in her waitress apron, fresh tears spilled down her gaunt cheeks.

Victoria: Clara... my sweet girl... you found him...

Clara: I wore the ring, Mom. Just like you told me to.
