The Arrest

The Dining Room Betrayal banner

Thomas: She did it for the life insurance and the trust fund, Dad.

Eleanor: Shut up! You don't know anything!

Thomas: I know you are drowning in secret credit card debt. David ran a background check on your accounts.

David: She owes nearly two million dollars to private lenders, Harrison.

Harrison: Two million? Eleanor, you told me you were managing the finances perfectly.

Eleanor: I was just having a run of bad luck in the market. I was going to fix it!

Thomas: By killing a two-year-old girl to steal her money?

Eleanor: The child wouldn't have known any better! It would have looked like a tragic allergy accident.

Harrison stumbled back, grabbing the back of his leather chair for support.

Harrison: You actually did it. You tried to hurt my granddaughter.

Eleanor: I did it for us, Harrison! To save our lifestyle!

Harrison: You are sick.

Eleanor: Don't you dare judge me! You are the one who cut my allowance last month!

Thomas: The conversation is over, Eleanor.

Heavy footsteps echoed in the corporate hallway. Two uniformed police officers and the detective entered the boardroom.

Detective: Eleanor Vance?

Eleanor: No. No, you can't arrest me in my own office.

Detective: You are under arrest for the attempted murder of a minor. Place your hands behind your back.

Eleanor: Harrison, call my lawyer! Call the firm!

Harrison: You are on your own, Eleanor.

Eleanor: You coward! You can't just abandon me!

The officers grabbed her arms, forcing the steel handcuffs tightly over her wrists.

Detective: You have the right to remain silent. I suggest you use it.

They dragged her toward the door. She kicked and screamed, completely dropping her wealthy socialite facade.

Eleanor: Thomas, I will destroy you for this!

Thomas: Enjoy prison. I hear the food is terrible.

The doors closed, cutting off her frantic screaming. The boardroom was quiet again.

Harrison: Thomas... I am so sorry.

Thomas: Sorry isn't enough, Dad.

Harrison: I didn't know. I swear to you, I didn't know she was capable of that.

Thomas: You brought her into our lives. You ignored all the red flags because she looked good on your arm.

Harrison: Can I see Lily? Can I visit her at the hospital?

Thomas: No.

Harrison: Please, Thomas. She is my only grandchild.

Thomas: You failed to protect her. David is filing the papers tomorrow. You will have no legal access to my daughter or her trust fund ever again.

Harrison: You are taking my family away from me?

Thomas: You did that yourself. We are done here.

Thomas turned and walked out of the boardroom, leaving his father alone in the silent, empty room.
