The Arrest in the Cellar

Victoria: Officer, this is a complete misunderstanding! I am the primary caretaker of this estate!

Officer Miller: Victoria Hall? We have an active emergency warrant issued by the District Attorney's office based on a recorded wiretap transmission.

Victoria: That transmission was taken illegally! It's inadmissible in court!

Officer Miller: Turn around and place your hands behind your back, ma'am.

The officer grabbed Victoria's wrists, snapping the cold steel handcuffs firmly around her arms.

Victoria: Get your filthy hands off me! Do you know who I am?! I am the executive director of Hall Enterprises!

Marcus: You were fired ten minutes ago by unanimous board vote over my phone, Victoria.

Victoria: You can't do this to me, Marcus! I built your public image! I saved your reputation!

Marcus: You tried to murder my wife and steal my child's future. You are nothing.

The officers dragged Victoria struggling and screaming up the cellar stairs, her high heels scraping violently against the hard wood.

Victoria: Marcus! You'll regret this! You hear me?! You'll pay for this!

Two paramedics rushed down into the cellar carrying a folding stretcher and a emergency medical kit.

Paramedic: Sir, let us get to her. She has severe head trauma and dehydration.

Marcus: Please, take care of her! She's been down here for days!

Marcus held Evelyn's hand tightly as the paramedics carefully lifted her onto the stretcher and wrapped her in a warm emergency blanket.

Evelyn: Maya... where is my baby...?

Marcus: Maya is safe in the guest house with Ellen, sweetheart. She's waiting for you.

Evelyn: Is the trust fund safe...?

Marcus: Everything is safe, Evelyn. You saved us all with that recording.

They brought Evelyn up into the grand foyer, where the bright evening air blew through the open front double doors.

Maya came running across the driveway from the guest house, her small arms reaching out as she saw her mother on the stretcher.

Maya: Mommy! Mommy!

Evelyn: My sweet girl... come here...

Evelyn raised her weak arm, wrapping it tightly around Maya's head as tears streamed down both of their faces.

Maya: I cleaned the sink, Mommy. I tried to wash the red away so Daddy would find you.

Evelyn: You were so brave, Maya. My brave little girl.
