The hospital door opened, and a tall man in a navy suit walked inside, carrying a thick leather briefcase.
Marcus: Good morning, Daniel. Mrs. Vance, it is an honor to meet you under better circumstances.
Daniel: Clara, this is Marcus Brody. He is the top family law and corporate estate attorney in the state.
Clara: What is happening, Daniel?
Daniel: Evelyn thinks she owns the family business and the mansion. She thinks she can use my father's money to treat people like slaves.
Marcus: What Evelyn failed to mention to you, Daniel, is that your father's primary will contained a secondary clause.
Daniel: What clause?
Marcus: The entire estate, including the corporate holdings and the mansion, was placed in a discretionary trust. Evelyn was only named as a temporary trustee until you turned twenty-five or had your first child.
Daniel: Wait... so my father left everything to me?
Marcus: Everything. Effective the moment your daughter was born today, Evelyn's trustee status was automatically terminated by law.
Clara: She doesn't own the mansion...?
Marcus: She doesn't own a single brick, Mrs. Vance. In fact, she is currently residing in a property that belongs entirely to you and Daniel.
Daniel took a deep breath, looking down at our sleeping baby with a cold, resolute expression on his face.
Daniel: Marcus, I want an immediate eviction notice drawn up for Evelyn Vance.
Marcus: How much time do you want to give her to vacate the premises?
Daniel: None. Give her twenty-four hours to pack her personal clothes and get off my property.
Clara: Daniel... she's still your mother. Will people think we're being too harsh?
Daniel: She made my pregnant wife scrub floors in a high-risk pregnancy, Clara. She threatened to let you bleed out to save her social status. She deserves far worse than eviction.
Marcus: I also have the police department review underway. The hospital social worker filed a formal report for domestic endangerment and physical abuse.
Daniel: Good. File the criminal charges against her too. Let the whole city see who Evelyn Vance really is.
Marcus: I will personally deliver the eviction notice and court summons to the estate before noon today.
Daniel: Thank you, Marcus. Make sure the private security guards change the main gate locks the second she steps outside.
Marcus bowed his head and stepped out of the room, leaving the three of us alone in the quiet hospital suite.
Clara: Daniel, are you sure you're ready for the war she is going to start?
Daniel: It's not a war, Clara. It's justice. And she has already lost.
