Mark: How did you get that kind of cash, Emily? You haven't worked in years!
Emily: My father's life insurance policy paid out last month, Mark. The one you tried to convince me to invest in your shell company.
Mark: You used your father's death benefit to buy my debt?
Emily: He always told me to protect myself from wolves. I just didn't realize the wolf was sleeping in my own bed.
Mark took a step back, hitting the podium with a dull thud. The microphone picked up his heavy, irregular breathing, broadcasting it through the entire hall.
Mark: What do you want from me, Emily? You've ruined my gala. You've ruined my company. What else is there?
Emily: I want the key to the family vault, Mark. And I want your signed resignation as CEO on my desk by morning.
Mark: Resignation? I founded that firm!
Emily: You founded it with my money, my patent, and my family's connections. You spent the last two years giving speeches about being a self-made billionaire while stealing from my bank account.
Mark: I won't sign it. I'll fight you in court for the next ten years!
Emily: With what money, Mark? Your personal accounts are frozen under a court order signed by Judge Reynolds at four o'clock today.
Mark reached into his tuxedo pocket, pulling out his leather wallet with shaking hands. He pulled out his primary corporate credit card and threw it onto the stage floor.
Mark: You think you've won? I still have my shares! I still have fifty-one percent voting power!
Emily: Check your email, Mark. Your share allocation was diluted the moment you defaulted on the secondary loan agreement this afternoon.
Mark's phone suddenly began buzzing violently in his hand. He looked down at the screen, his thumb swiping frantically across the glass as message after message flooded his inbox from the board of directors.
Mark: Emergency board meeting... called by Emily Vance... motion to remove Mark Vance as Chairman... passed unanimously?
Emily: The board doesn't like scandal, Mark. Especially when the scandal involves embezzlement, wire fraud, and a ruined dress on national television.
Mark: You set me up... you orchestrated this whole night!
Emily: You set yourself up the moment you ripped my dress in that hallway and told me I was nothing without your money.
I stepped down from the podium, holding my head high as I walked down the stage stairs. The crowd was completely silent now, watching every movement of my sequined gown as the back was still torn wide open, exposing the dark bruises on my waist where Mark had grabbed me earlier.
Guest 1: Look at her back... he actually grabbed her like that?
Guest 2: That's terrible... he belongs in jail.
Mark: I didn't hurt her! She's lying! She bruised herself!
Emily: The security cameras in the west coatroom have audio, Mark. My lawyer already sent the raw footage to the precinct down the street.
Two uniformed police officers walked into the grand gala hall, their heavy boots thudding against the polished floor as they navigated through the crowd of shocked executives.
Officer 1: Mark Vance?
Mark: This is a private party! You can't just walk in here!
Officer 1: Sir, we have a warrant for your arrest regarding domestic battery and grand larceny.
