Victoria sat at the defense table wearing a plain navy jail jumpsuit, her hands cuffed loosely at her waist as her high-priced defense attorney stood beside her.
Arthur: Your Honor, the prosecution calls Mr. David Sterling to the stand.
David stood up from the prosecution table, walking calmly to the witness box. He placed his hand on the Bible and swore to tell the whole truth.
Arthur: Mr. Sterling, please state for the court what occurred on the afternoon of August fourth at your private residence.
David: I witnessed the defendant, Victoria Croft, verbally abuse and physically threaten my three-year-old son, Timmy, and my household administrator, Sarah Jenkins.
Defense Lawyer: Objection, Your Honor! Characterization of a minor family disagreement as 'physical threat' is an exaggeration!

David: She raised her hand to strike my child because he accidentally touched her dress. When Sarah stepped in front of Timmy to protect him, Victoria screamed obscenities and threatened to ruin her life.
Arthur: And what did you discover regarding the defendant's financial activities prior to that afternoon?
David: We discovered that Victoria had transferred two hundred thousand dollars from a corporate account to bribe a medical auditor into filing false psychiatric reports against me.
A loud murmur swept through the courtroom gallery as reporters frantically jotted down notes in their pad books.

Sarah walked up the aisle toward the front of the court, dressed in a tasteful cream-colored suit that David had purchased for her.
