The Contract In The Suitcase

Evelyn: Officers, please escort this young lady off the venue grounds. She is no longer a invited guest.

Camila: Don't you dare lay a hand on me! This lace dress costs twelve thousand dollars!

Guard 1: Ma'am, please step toward the street quietly.

Camila: Ethan! Look at me! You can't do this to me after everything we spent on planning!

Ethan: My family paid for ninety percent of the wedding planner fees, Camila. You didn't spend a single dime of your own cash.

Camila: I gave up my career at the marketing firm for you!

Ethan: You resigned three weeks ago because you wanted to spend all afternoon at the day spa!

Camila’s face turned bright red with embarrassment as the two guards stepped on either side of her lace train.

Camila: You are going to regret this, Ethan Vance! You will never find another woman who looks like me!

Evelyn: Thank goodness for small favors. We don't need another snake in our garden.

Camila: Shut up, you old crow!

Guard 2: Ma'am, lower your voice or we will have to call the city police for public disturbance.

Camila stomped her high heel down onto the pavement, tears of pure rage spilling over her heavy eyeliner as she was escorted to the sidewalk.

Ethan stood beside his mother, watching the white lace dress disappear around the corner of the driveway.

Evelyn: Are you alright, son?

Ethan: My chest hurts, Mom. But I know you saved my life today.

Evelyn: She would have drained your accounts within two years, Ethan. Women like her don't build empires; they consume them.

Ethan: I just can't believe I was so blind for eighteen months.

Evelyn: Love makes intelligent men do very foolish things. Now come inside. We have a five-course meal for two hundred people that needs to be eaten.

Ethan: What are we going to do with all that catered food?

Evelyn: I've already called the downtown shelter. Three delivery vans are on their way to pick up the entire feast.

Ethan looked at his mother, a faint, sad smile finally breaking through his pale face.

Ethan: That's the best idea you've had all day, Mom.

They walked back into the grand marble foyer together, where the venue manager was waiting nervously with a thick clipboard.

Manager: Mr. Vance... I am so sorry about the disturbance earlier. Do you need us to process the refund for the unused alcohol inventory?

Ethan: Keep the deposit, Mr. Davis. Just make sure the staff gets paid double for dealing with this mess.

Manager: Double pay? Sir... that is incredibly generous of you!

Ethan: They had to watch a circus today. They earned every penny.

As the venue manager hurried off to tell the kitchen crew, a young woman in a simple gray assistant's suit stepped out from behind the bridal dressing room, holding a heavy leather briefcase.

Mia: Excuse me... Mr. Vance?

Ethan turned around, looking at the tired-looking girl with dark hair tied back in a neat ponytail.

Ethan: Yes? Are you with the floral team?

Mia: No, sir. I'm Mia... I was Camila's personal assistant for the wedding planning over the last six months.

Ethan: Oh. I'm sorry you had to deal with her demands.

Mia: Mr. Vance... before you leave, there's something inside this suitcase you need to see. Something she made me hide in her dressing room this morning.
