Ethan: What's inside the suitcase, Mia?
Mia: A set of legal documents her private attorney drafted three days ago, sir.
Mia set the heavy leather case down on the marble registration desk and popped open the metal latches.
She pulled out a thick stapled folder with red legal seals across the cover.
Mia: She told me to burn these if the wedding went through without any problems, but after what she did to you out there... I can't keep quiet.
Ethan took the folder, his eyes scanning the top line of bold print.
Ethan: *Post-Nuptial Asset Allocation Agreement... Drafted for Vance Estate Holdings.*
Evelyn: Let me see that!
Evelyn snatched the papers from Ethan's hands, her sharp eyes reading through the legal clauses at light speed.
Evelyn: Look at section four, Ethan! She had an offshore lawyer draft an automatic transfer clause!
Ethan: What does it say?
Evelyn: If you were ever hospitalized or declared mentally incapacitated, sixty percent of your private corporate voting shares would automatically transfer to her sole name!
Ethan felt a cold shiver run down his spine, his knuckles going white as he gripped the desk edge.
Ethan: She was planning to take control of Vance Global Capital from day one...
Mia: She was talking on the phone with an offshore investment broker last night, Mr. Vance. She was setting up a shell company in the Cayman Islands to receive the shares.
Ethan: So when I told her about the fake bankruptcy last night...
Mia: She panicked because she thought the shell company wouldn't get any value from a bankrupt firm. That's why she caused the scene today!
Evelyn slammed the legal folder down onto the wooden table with a loud crack that echoed across the foyer.
Evelyn: She wasn't just a gold digger, Ethan! She was trying to stage a corporate takeover of our family business!
Ethan: My God... if I hadn't run that fake bankruptcy test on her last night, I would have signed our joint estate papers after the altar ceremony today.
Mia: The joint estate papers were rigged too, sir. Her lawyer slipped three altered pages into the official notary stack on the gift table.
Ethan looked at Mia, total disbelief showing on his face.
Ethan: You saved my entire life's work, Mia. Why are you risking your job to tell me this?
Mia: Because my father lost his small factory to a corporate scammer ten years ago, Mr. Vance. I know what it looks like when evil people try to steal everything an honest family built.
Evelyn: Mia... who was the attorney listed on these documents?
Mia: A man named Richard Sterling from Sterling & Partners downtown.
Evelyn’s eyes narrowed into sharp slits as a dark, dangerous smile formed on her lips.
Evelyn: Richard Sterling... my ex-husband's former business partner. It all makes sense now.
Ethan: Sterling hired Camila to get close to me, didn't he?
Evelyn: He's been trying to get his hands on our board seats for fifteen years, Ethan. Camila was just his pretty Trojan horse.
Ethan took a deep, steady breath, pulling his smartphone from his inner jacket pocket once again.
Ethan: Mia, do you still have the text messages between Camila and Sterling on your work phone?
Mia: Every single one of them, sir. I backed them up to my personal cloud drive an hour ago.
Ethan: Good. Call Detective Miller at the financial crimes unit right now, Mom. It's time we put Sterling and Camila where they belong.
