The Lost Boarding Ticket

Thomas unzipped the front pocket of the small backpack with shaking, uncertain fingers.

A folded piece of airline paper slipped out from the inner pouch and drifted slowly down toward the floor.

The close-up tracking shot followed the paper as it fluttered through the air before landing gently by his shoes.

The older man bends down, picks up a boarding ticket from the floor, and looks at it closely with trembling hands.

SFX: Paper rustling

Thomas: What is this? A ticket stub? But my flight is the only one I booked today.

Lily: Look at the name printed on the paper, Grandpa. Read it out loud.

Thomas adjusted his reading glasses, squinting against the bright terminal lights to inspect the faded text.

Thomas: This... this ticket is issued to Sarah Thomas. But the date... the date is for today's flight.

Lily: Mommy bought it online before she went to sleep for the very last time.

Thomas: But why would she buy a ticket for a flight she knew she couldn't physically take?

Lily: She said she wanted to travel with you in spirit, even if she couldn't hold your hand.

Officer Miller stepped closer, glancing down at the official airline document resting in the older man's palm.

Officer Miller: That ticket is fully validated, sir. It includes a seat right next to your assigned row.

Thomas: Sarah... my sweet Sarah... you planned all of this from a hospital bed?

Lily: She saved her allowance money for a whole year to pay for it, so you wouldn't be alone.

Thomas's breath hitched as a heavy sob broke through his tightly sealed lips.

He pulled the small boarding pass tightly against his chest, closing his eyes as memories flooded his mind.

Thomas: I was a terrible father. I threw her out when she needed me the most.

Lily: No, Grandpa. Mommy always said you were just scared and didn't know how to talk.

Thomas: And now she's gone, and I'm left with nothing but an empty house and a broken heart.

Lily: You aren't empty anymore, Grandpa. You have me now.

Thomas opened his eyes, looking down at the innocent child who embodied every ounce of his lost daughter.

Can Thomas accept this miraculous second chance at family before the boarding gates finally lock?
