Marcus stood near the glass balcony overlooking the gardens, wearing a black tuxedo, holding a glass of sparkling water.
David stepped up beside him, adjusting his bowtie with a smile.
David: Great speech tonight, Marcus. The board was really moved by what you said about family.
Marcus: Thanks, David. It came straight from the heart.
David: How is Lily doing with her new school?
Marcus: She loves it. Her teacher said she's the brightest student in the art class. She made three new best friends this week.
David: That's amazing. What about you? Are you ready to start dating again anytime soon?
Marcus chuckled softly, shaking his head as he looked out at the city lights below.
Marcus: Right now, my focus is entirely on being the best father I can be. If the right person comes along someday, great. But Lily is my priority.
A soft voice called out from behind them.
Clara: Mr. Sterling?
Marcus turned around to see a young woman in a simple green dress standing near the balcony entrance. She was holding a small leather notebook and a camera bag over her shoulder.
Marcus: Yes? Can I help you?
Clara: Hi, I'm Clara Jenkins from the City Children's Journal. I was hoping to get a quick quote from you about the new foundation grant for the children's shelter.
Marcus: Of course. I'd be happy to speak with you.
Clara smiled warmly, her eyes kind and genuine as she opened her notebook.
Clara: I read about your daughter's contribution to the art auction tonight. Her painting raised twenty thousand dollars for the shelter.
Marcus: She worked very hard on it. She wanted to make sure other kids had safe places to play and draw.
Clara: You must be very proud of her.
Marcus: Every single day of my life.
David smiled quietly, stepping back to give them room to talk as Clara began asking her interview questions.
