Standing Ovation For The Prodigy

Maya: ...and I will never fall again!

The final high note vibrated through the air, holding for ten incredible seconds without a single flaw.

As the grand piano played the closing chord, absolute silence hung over the auditorium for a brief second.

Then, like a thunderclap, the entire room erupted into explosive applause.

Distinguished gentlemen in expensive tuxedos leaped to their feet, cheering enthusiastically.

Audience Member 1: Bravo! Outstanding!

Audience Member 2: What a voice! Phenomenal!

Audience Member 3: Encore! Encore!

Tears of pure joy streamed down Maya's cheeks as she held the microphone close to her chest, bowing politely to the roaring crowd.

Richard stood in the front row, clapping his hands firmly with a proud, warm smile on his face.

Billionaire CEO Richard: Absolutely marvelous! Magnificent!

On stage, Maya's mother stood in the wings, her hands clasped over her mouth as she wept tears of overwhelming relief.

Mother: She did it... my little girl really did it...

Meanwhile, outside the glass entrance doors of the grand auditorium, Victoria paced back and forth on the wet sidewalk in her thin silk dress.

Victoria: Pick up the phone, Dad! Pick up right now!

Father (On Phone): Victoria? Why are you calling me during the annual arts gala? You know I was supposed to be there!

Victoria: Dad, I was just humiliated! Richard Sterling had security throw me out of the hall!

Father (On Phone): What?! Richard Sterling threw you out?! Why on earth would he do that?!

Victoria: I just made a little joke about some poor kid singing on stage, and he made a massive scene!

Father (On Phone): A joke? Victoria, what exactly did you say?!

Victoria: I just said she didn't belong on stage! Because she doesn't! She's a nobody!

A heavy silence fell over the phone line, so quiet that Victoria could hear her father's heavy breathing.

Father (On Phone): You complete idiot...

Victoria: Dad? What are you talking about?! You need to revoke his company's lease on our downtown building!

Father (On Phone): Do you have any idea who that little girl is, Victoria?!

Victoria: Some charity case from the local community center!

Father (On Phone): That little girl is Maya Sterling! Richard Sterling's biological granddaughter, who was adopted five years ago after his son passed away!

Victoria's phone almost slipped from her numb fingers as her heart dropped into her stomach.

Victoria: What... what did you just say?

Father (On Phone): Richard was holding this showcase specifically to introduce his grand-daughter to the elite arts foundation! And you insulted her in front of every major investor in the state!

Victoria: Dad... I didn't know... I swear I didn't know!

Father (On Phone): It doesn't matter if you knew! Richard just pulled his fifty-million-dollar investment from our development project three minutes ago!

Victoria: Fifty million dollars?!

Father (On Phone): You just destroyed our family business because of your arrogant mouth! Get home right now before I lose my temper!

The line went dead, leaving Victoria standing in the cold air, her jaw open in absolute horror.
