Eleanor: Arthur, you have no right to come into my son's wedding like this!
Arthur: I have every right, Eleanor. I am the executor of Charles's estate.
Ethan: Dad's executor? I thought the family estate was settled three years ago!
Arthur: It was settled, Ethan. But your mother hid a crucial codicil from the court.
Chloe stepped next to Arthur, setting her hand on the edge of the mahogany table.
Chloe: Tell him, Arthur. Tell him who actually owns the house keys she's holding.
Eleanor: Shut your mouth, Chloe! This is a private family matter!
Arthur: It is a legal matter, Eleanor. And the police are already on their way.
Arthur unzipped his briefcase, pulling out a set of thick paper documents stamped with red state seals.
Ethan: What documents are those? What are you talking about?
Arthur: Your father didn't leave the main estate or the house to your mother, Ethan.
Ethan: What? He left everything to Mom! She's been managing the trust fund!
Arthur: She's been illegally managing money that was placed into a private trust for you and your future wife.
Eleanor took a quick step back, her hands shaking as she tried to hide the set of house keys behind her back.
Eleanor: He's lying, Ethan! He was fired from your father's firm ten years ago!
Arthur: I wasn't fired, Eleanor. I resigned because you asked me to fake Charles's signature on a property transfer.
Chloe: She wanted control of the home so she could force us to live under her rules.
Ethan: Mom... is this true? Did Dad leave the house to me?
Eleanor: I did it to protect you, Ethan! You were too young to handle a multi-million-dollar estate!
Ethan: I was twenty-five years old when Dad passed away!
Arthur: Under the terms of the trust, the property and the master accounts transfer directly to Ethan on his wedding day.
Chloe: That's why she tried to cancel our wedding venue three weeks ago.
Ethan: You tried to cancel our wedding?!
Eleanor: She isn't right for you, Ethan! She's a nobody from a small town!
Chloe: I am his wife as of two hours ago, Eleanor. And you are officially trespassing.
Arthur pulled a blue folder from his briefcase, sliding it across the table toward Ethan.
Arthur: Look at the second page, Ethan. Read the clause out loud for everyone to hear.
Ethan picked up the folder, his hands trembling as his eyes scanned the bold black text.
Ethan: "Upon the marriage of my son, Ethan, all administrative rights held by Eleanor shall be revoked immediately..."
Eleanor: Ethan, put that down right now!
Ethan: "...and full ownership of the family home, the lake house, and the investment portfolio shall be transferred to Ethan and his spouse."
Ethan looked up from the page, staring at his mother with deep hurt and anger in his eyes.
Ethan: You lied to me for three whole years.
Eleanor: Ethan, listen to me...
Ethan: Give Chloe the keys. Right now.
