Mark: You had no right to search through my personal desk papers!
Lila: I had every right! I was your wife!
Mark: You're insane! Hand that thumb drive over before I call the police for theft!
Lila: Go ahead! Call them! Let them see what's stored on this drive!
The diner manager walked out from behind the counter, holding a heavy landline phone in his hand.
Manager: Sir, step back from the lady right now or I'm pressing the emergency button for the sheriff.
Mark: Mind your own business! This is a private family matter!
Lila: It's not a family matter, sir. He's been hiding thousands of dollars while forcing me and my child to live in poverty.
Mark: Shut up, Lila! You don't know what you're talking about!
Lila: I know how to read financial statements, Mark. I saw the bank name on these tax forms.
Mark's face went pale, his aggressive posture faltering for a brief second under the diner's fluorescent lights.
Mark: You... you read the tax forms?
Lila: You told me your logistics company went bankrupt three years ago. You told me we had to live in your mother's house because we couldn't afford rent.
Mark: We were saving money!
Lila: You weren't saving money for us! You transferred three million dollars into a private trust fund under your mother's name!
Mark: That was family estate planning!
Lila: That was money from my late father's life insurance policy that you convinced me to deposit into your business account!
Maya stirred in the booth, rubbing her eyes as she looked up at her shouting father.
Maya: Mommy? Is Daddy going to hurt us?
Lila: No, baby. Daddy is leaving right now.
Mark: I'm not going anywhere without that drive, Lila. That has the encryption codes for the entire account!
Lila: Then you're going to have to explain those encryption codes to my divorce lawyer in the morning.
Mark lunged forward, reaching his hand out to snatch the black drive from Lila's grip.
The diner manager slammed the heavy phone base onto the counter, his voice echoing loudly.
Manager: That's it! I'm calling the deputies!
Mark: Lila, please! If you plug that drive into a computer, it will trigger an automatic audit with the IRS!
Lila: Good! Let them audit every single penny you stole from my family!
