The Truth Comes Out

Mark: You don't understand what my mother will do to me if that money gets frozen!

Lila: Your mother? Evelyn knew about the three million dollars the whole time, didn't she?

Mark: She... she wanted to make sure you wouldn't take half in a divorce!

Lila: She made me serve cheap instant noodles to her friends while sitting on millions of dollars that belonged to my late father!

Mark: She said you were just a waitress when I met you! She said you didn't deserve luxury!

Lila: I was a nursing student when I met you, Mark! I quit my education because you asked me to stay home and raise our daughter!

Mark: Lila, listen to me. We can fix this. Come back home. I'll buy you a new car. I'll give you ten thousand dollars tomorrow morning!

Lila: Ten thousand dollars? You think you can buy my dignity with ten thousand dollars?

Mark: It's better than sleeping in a diner booth with a kid!

Lila: I would rather sleep on the street with my daughter than live another day in your mother's mansion of lies.

Two blue police cruisers pulled into the diner parking lot, their emergency lights flashing brightly against the front glass windows.

Two local police officers walked through the front doors, their hands resting near their duty belts.

Officer Miller: What's the problem here, folks?

Manager: This man forced his way in here and started harassing this woman and her little girl.

Mark: Officer, this is my wife! She took important corporate documents from my home office!

Lila: These documents belong to my father's estate, Officer. And my husband has been illegally embezzling funds from my inheritance trust.

Officer Miller: Sir, I need you to step away from the booth and keep your hands where I can see them.

Mark: This is a simple civil misunderstanding! She's filing for divorce and trying to ruin my reputation!

Officer Miller: Is this your vehicle parked outside, sir? The silver SUV blocking the fire lane?

Mark: Yes, but I was in a rush to stop my wife!

Officer Miller: Step outside with my partner, sir. We're going to check your registration and sort this out in the parking lot.

Mark backed toward the door, glaring at Lila with desperate, pleading eyes.

Mark: Lila, don't do this. If you give that drive to a lawyer, I could go to prison!

Lila: You should have thought about that before you made me serve noodle cups to your mother's guests.
