Confrontation In The Sun

Evelyn's face turned pale as she looked at the paper Mark was holding tightly in his right hand.

Evelyn: What is that? What are you holding?

Mark: It's the updated will my father hid inside Leo's wooden toy car three weeks ago.

Evelyn: That's a fake! Raudin didn't have the mental capacity to sign anything three weeks ago!

Mark: It's notarized, Evelyn. By Mr. Harrison, his personal attorney from Chicago.

Evelyn took a slow step back against her car door, her confidence rapidly evaporating.

Evelyn: Harrison wouldn't dare... He promised me those records were sealed!

Mark: So you DID know about Harrison! You knew about the will, and you tried to throw Leo out before anyone found out!

Evelyn: That child is a bastard! He doesn't deserve a single cent of the Vance family fortune!

Mark: He is my father's biological son, Evelyn! He has more right to that name than you ever did!

Evelyn: I gave twenty years of my life to your father's business! I built that estate!

Mark: You drained his accounts while he was lying in a hospital bed! I checked the corporate records yesterday morning!

Evelyn grabbed the handle of her car door, trying to open it to get inside.

Mark: Don't bother getting in that car. The police are already on their way here.

Evelyn: For what?! I haven't committed any crime!

Mark: Child abandonment, fraud, and illegal eviction of a minor from a registered residential property.

Evelyn: You're bluffing!

Mark: Try me. My father made me the sole executor of his main estate, and I am revoking your power of attorney effective right now.

Evelyn stared at him with venomous eyes, her red cheek still swollen from his slap.

Evelyn: You think you can just replace me with a orphan kid from the slums?

Mark: He's not an orphan kid from the slums. He's my little brother. And as long as I'm breathing, nobody will ever treat him like trash again.

Two police cruisers pulled into the sunlit parking lot, their tires crunching against the gravel as they stopped behind Evelyn's car.

Evelyn: No... No, wait! This is a private family matter!

Two officers stepped out of the first cruiser, walking straight toward Evelyn with stern expressions.

Officer Davis: Mrs. Evelyn Vance?

Evelyn: Yes, but my stepson is making false accusations!

Officer Davis: We have an arrest warrant issued by the Cook County Family Court regarding the illegal eviction and endangerment of a seven-year-old child, Leo Vance.

Evelyn: You can't arrest me! Do you know who my lawyers are?!

Officer Davis: Hands behind your back, ma'am. Do not resist.

The officers turned Evelyn around, clicking heavy metal handcuffs around her wrists in the bright daylight.

Mark stood by, watching calmly as the officers led the screaming woman toward the back seat of the police car.
