Two paramedics rushed into the foyer carrying a medical kit, kneeling down beside David and Lily.
Paramedic: Hi there, little one. My name is Sarah. Can I take a look at your arm?
Lily: Will it hurt?
Paramedic: Not at all, sweetie. We're just going to put some clean bandages on those scratches and make sure you're all fixed up.
David gently lowered Lily into the paramedic's arms, rubbing his daughter's back as she was examined.
Richard stepped over to David, his eyes bloodshot and filled with deep regret.
Richard: David... I don't know how to ask for your forgiveness.
David: I don't need your apology, Dad. I needed you to protect your granddaughter.
Richard: I was blind. Evelyn manipulated everything... the bank accounts, the estate papers, my own thoughts.
David: You let her do it because it was easier than fighting her.
Richard: You're right. I was a coward. But that ends today.
Richard reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out a small silver key on a leather strap.
Richard: This is the key to the master safe in the study. All of your mother's original estate documents are inside.
David: What are you doing, Dad?
Richard: I'm handing full legal ownership of the Vance Family Trust over to you and Lily today.
David: You don't have to do that.
Richard: Yes, I do. It was always meant to be yours. Your mother wanted you to have it, and I let Evelyn steal it from you.
David looked down at the key in his father's trembling hand, taking a slow breath.
David: We're going to sell this house, Dad. We're selling this mansion and donating half the proceeds to the children's hospital.
Richard: Whatever you want to do, David. It's your decision now.
The paramedic finished wrapping a clean white bandage around Lily's arm and placed a colorful band-aid on her cheek.
Paramedic: All set, little princess! You were super brave.
Lily: Thank you, lady.
Lily reached her arms out toward David, and he picked her up immediately, holding her tight against his heart.
David: Ready to go home, sweetie?
Lily: Can we go get ice cream, Daddy?
David: We can get all the ice cream you want.
