Richard: You called the police to my charity gala?!
Clara: I called them twenty minutes ago when I heard small fingers tapping against the drywall behind the frame.
Richard: I was keeping her safe! The girl has medical conditions!
Lily: He locked the door from the outside, Aunt Clara... he only brought me bread and juice once a day.
Clara squeezed Lily tightly against her shoulder, her voice shaking with pure fury.
Clara: You kept a child on bread and water inside a wall cavity while you hosted a black-tie gala outside?
Evelyn: You monster! How could any human being do that to a little girl?!
Richard: I had to keep her hidden until the probate court finalized Sarah's death certificate today!
Judge Vance: The probate hearing was scheduled for two o'clock today, Richard. I was supposed to sign the transfer order for Sarah's assets to your personal bank account.
Richard: Vance, please... we can discuss this in private in the study.
Judge Vance: There will be no private discussion, Richard. You attempted to commit grand fraud and child endangerment.
Clara: Show them the safe key, Richard.
Richard: What safe key?
Clara: The key tucked inside your tuxedo vest pocket. The one that opens the iron box hidden inside that very wall.
Clara pointed to the splintered cavity where the child had been pulled out.
Richard instinctively reached for his vest pocket, his fingers trembling against the black fabric.
Clara: Go ahead, take it out. Let Judge Vance see Sarah's real biological birth certificate and adoption records.
Richard: You have been spying on my office, haven't you?
Clara: Sarah called me two nights before her accident, Richard. She told me she was terrified of you.
Richard: Sarah was unstable!
Clara: Sarah was trying to escape your control! She knew you were forging her signature on property deeds!
Lily: Mommy hid the blue notebook under my mattress in the wall room, Aunt Clara.
Clara: Did you hear that, Judge Vance? Sarah kept a diary of every forged document.
Judge Vance stepped over the broken plaster and reached into the narrow gap inside the wall, pulling out a thick leather-bound blue diary from beneath a folded blanket.
Judge Vance: Is this the notebook, Lily?
Lily: Yes... Mommy wrote down all the numbers before the car went fast off the bridge.
Judge Vance opened the first page, his eyes scanning the handwritten notes and bank account numbers written in dark ink.
Judge Vance: Richard... these are accounts held in the Cayman Islands under your personal name.
Richard: Those are legitimate offshore corporate holdings!
Judge Vance: Dated the exact day Sarah's trust fund was drained of four million dollars.
