The midday sun beat down hard on the crowded sidewalk outside The Grand Bistro, one of the most expensive luxury restaurants in the city.
Twenty-four-year-old Chloe stood near the glass front doors, wiping down the outdoor menu stand with a damp towel. Her grey server uniform was worn at the cuffs, and her tired eyes showed how little sleep she had gotten the night before.
A sleek black luxury SUV pulled up to the curb, its engine idling smoothly against the hum of city traffic.
A tall, handsome man in a dark tailored suit stepped out of the back seat, adjusting his silver wristwatch under the bright daylight.
Chloe: Good afternoon, sir. Welcome to The Grand Bistro.
Marcus: Thank you, but I'm actually not here to eat today.
Chloe paused, holding her wiping cloth tightly in her hands as she looked at the wealthy stranger.
Chloe: Oh, I'm sorry. The main entrance for private party bookings is right through those double doors.
Marcus: I'm not here for a booking either. I came here specifically to find you, Chloe.
Chloe's heart skipped a beat as she took a step back, her eyes wide with sudden worry.
Chloe: Me? Did I do something wrong? Was there an issue with your table last night?
Marcus: Not at all. In fact, it's quite the opposite.
Marcus reached into his inner suit jacket pocket and pulled out a thick, white official paper envelope.
Marcus: This is for you.
Chloe stared at the envelope in disbelief, her hands trembling as she reached out to accept it.
Chloe: What is this?
Marcus: Open it and see for yourself.
Chloe carefully slid her thumb under the flap and pulled the envelope open. Inside sat a thick stack of hundred-dollar bank notes wrapped in paper bands, along with a certified cashier's check.
Chloe: Are you serious?! I... I can never repay this!
Tears of overwhelming emotion streamed down her pale cheeks as she broke down crying, placing a trembling hand over her heart in pure shock.
Marcus: It is nothing! You deserve this and so much more!
Chloe looked up into his compassionate eyes, sobbing tears of gratitude as her overwhelmed expression softened into deep relief.
Chloe: Thank you so much! You have no idea what this means to my family!
Marcus warmly pulled the crying waitress into a supportive, comforting hug right there on the sunlit sidewalk, completely unaware of the dark secret watching them from inside the restaurant windows.
