Confrontation at the Estate

Stepmother Attacks Servant at Gala Before Secret Photograph Exposes Everything banner

The laptop chimed loudly as an incoming file arrived from the private investigator.

Investigator: Mr. Sterling, you need to read this document I just emailed you. It's a bank transaction record from 2007.

Arthur: What does it show?

Investigator: Clara's mother was a head administrator at St. Jude Hospital the night your daughter was born. There was a wire transfer of fifty thousand dollars from a private account to her mother's offshore fund two days later.

Arthur: Clara's family was involved in kidnapping my daughter!

Maya: Oh my god...

Arthur: They stole my child, let my first wife die of sorrow, and then Clara swooped in years later to marry me for my fortune!

Just as Arthur finished speaking, the loud sound of a car screeching to a halt outside echoed through the courtyard.

Mrs. Gable: Sir, she's back! She's arguing with the gate guards!

Arthur: Let her in. I want her right here in this room.

A minute later, Clara burst into the study, her red silk dress wrinkled and her hair wild. She was holding a leather folder in her hands.

Clara: Arthur! You can't just throw me out! I have rights under our prenuptial agreement!

Arthur: You have no rights here, Clara.

Clara: Look at this contract! If you file for divorce without legal cause, I am entitled to thirty million dollars and the penthouse in New York!

Arthur: Read the room, Clara. We know everything.

Clara: Know what?! That some random maid convinced you she's your daughter?

Maya: My name is Lily Sterling. And your mother took fifty thousand dollars to hide me away in an illegal adoption ring.

Clara's face froze. The folder slipped from her fingers, landing on the floor.

Clara: That's... that's a lie! You have no proof!

Arthur: I have the bank statements, Clara. I have the wire transfers from your mother's account. And I have the police department on line one.
