Six months later, the bright morning sun shone through the windows of the grand dining hall.
The long wooden table was set with fresh flowers, juice, and warm pastries. Maya—now legally recognized as Lily Sterling—sat at the head of the table wearing a simple, elegant blue dress.
Arthur: Good morning, sweetheart. Did you sleep well?
Lily: I slept wonderfully, Dad. Thank you.
Mrs. Gable walked in with a tray of fresh tea, smiling warmly at both of them.
Mrs. Gable: Miss Lily, your new university acceptance letters arrived in the mail today.
Lily: Really?! Which ones?
Arthur: All three of them. Columbia, NYU, and Yale.
Lily: I can't believe this is my life now. Six months ago I was scrubbing these floors in a black uniform.
Arthur: You were always meant to be here, Lily. You belong here.
Arthur pulled a small velvet box from his pocket and set it next to her plate.
Lily: What's this?
Arthur: Open it.
Lily opened the latch. Inside sat a gold locket. When she opened the clasp, she saw two tiny photographs inside: one was the old faded picture of her biological mother holding her as a baby, and the other was a picture of her and Arthur taken at the park last week.
Lily: It's beautiful, Dad.
Arthur: Now you'll always have both of us with you, no matter where you go to college.
Lily: I'm choosing Columbia. I want to stay close to home.
Arthur smiled, reaching across the table to hold his daughter's hand.
Arthur: That is the best news I've heard all year.
Outside, the estate garden bloomed with bright red and white roses. The dark days of deceit and fear were completely gone, replaced by a family restored and justice finally served.
