Stepmother Demanded Her Stepdaughter Leave The House Not Knowing Who Paid The Mortgage

The summer sun beat down brightly on the manicured grass of the suburban backyard patio, where the white patio table was set for lunch.

Brenda: Look at this place, everyone. It took so much hard work to secure a property like this in today's market.

Susan: It really is gorgeous, Brenda. You and Arthur must be so proud of this backyard.

Brenda: Well, you know how it is. When you manage family finances properly, you can afford luxury.

Maya stood near the patio edge, her knuckles turning white around her glass of iced tea as she listened to her stepmother brag to the neighbors.

Maya: You didn't manage anything, Brenda.

The conversation around the outdoor table stopped instantly. Brenda set her wine glass down with a sharp clink against the glass tabletop.

Brenda: Excuse me? What did you just say to me?

Maya: You heard me. You sit here telling the whole neighborhood how hard you worked for this house, but you haven't put a single dollar into it.

Brenda stood up from her chair, her face turning dark red with immediate anger as she pointed a manicured finger at Maya.

Brenda: WHAT IS SHE TALKING ABOUT?!

Maya stepped closer to the patio table, her voice trembling with years of built-up pain and emotional hurt, yet filled with undeniable pride.

Maya: I'VE BEEN PAYING THE MORTGAGE!

Brenda grimaced with sudden, aggressive fury, stepping directly into Maya's face on the sunlit concrete.

Brenda: YOU EMBARRASSED ME! GET OUT!

Maya swallowed hard, tears welling up in her eyes as she stood her ground against her stepmother's screaming face.

Nearby, Arthur sat frozen in his blue polo shirt, his knuckles white against the wooden armrests of his outdoor chair.

Brenda: Pack your bags right now! I want you off my property before dinner!

Maya wiped a falling tear from her cheek, staring back into Brenda's furious eyes.

Maya: This isn't your property, Brenda. And you can't kick me out.

Brenda: Watch me! Arthur, tell your daughter to leave before I throw her things onto the driveway myself!

Arthur slowly pushed himself up from his chair, his eyes fixed on his wife with intense, unyielding rage as the entire patio went dead silent.
