Brenda: Thirty minutes?! You are kicking your own wife out onto the street?!
Arthur: You tried to kick my daughter out five minutes ago. I am simply giving you the exact same treatment you gave her.
Brenda: Where am I supposed to go?! All my money is in our joint account!
Arthur: I froze the joint account two hours ago, Brenda. The court will determine how much money actually belongs to you after the forensic audit is finished.
Brenda: Forensic audit?! Are you trying to destroy my life?!
Arthur: You destroyed your own life the moment you chose greed over family.
Maya stepped forward, holding the house keys tightly in her hand as she looked down at Brenda sitting in the patio chair.
Maya: You told me earlier that I was nothing in this family, Brenda.
Brenda: Maya... please... I was angry! I didn't mean those things!
Maya: You meant every single word. You spent five years making me feel like a stranger in the house my mother bought for me.
Brenda: I helped raise you! I cooked meals for you!
Maya: You charged me extra for groceries every week while you bought expensive clothes with my mortgage money.
Brenda: I will pay you back every dollar! I swear I'll get a job and pay you back!
Maya: It's not about the money, Brenda. It's about how you treated my father and me.
Arthur walked over to the back patio door, opening it wide as he looked back at Brenda with cold, final judgment.
Arthur: Time is ticking, Brenda. Twenty-five minutes left. If you are still here when the clock hits two, I am calling the sheriff to execute a formal trespassing removal.
Brenda: You wouldn't call the police on me!
Arthur: Try me.
Brenda stood up frantically, her red top wrinkled and her face pale as she stumbled toward the back door, rushing upstairs to pack her belongings.
Maya looked around the sunlit backyard, hearing the quiet rustle of the summer breeze through the trees.
Maya: Dad... are you going to be okay?
Arthur: I'm better than okay, Maya. For the first time in five years, my heart feels light.
Maya: I was so scared you would take her side today.
Arthur: I will never choose a lie over my daughter ever again. I am so sorry it took me this long to open my eyes.
Arthur pulled Maya into a warm, supportive hug right in the middle of the sunlit backyard patio.
Maya closed her eyes, tears of absolute relief washing away five years of hidden pain as she leaned against her father's shoulder.
