The Unexpected Return

General Vance: STEP AWAY FROM MY DAUGHTER!

David froze in mid-stride, his hand hovering in the air. He turned slowly toward the front entrance, his face draining of color as he recognized the tall, stern man standing in the doorway.

David: General Vance? What... what are you doing back from Washington?

General Arthur Vance dropped his heavy travel bag onto the hardwood floor. His uniform was immaculate, adorned with military commendations, and his posture radiated intense, absolute authority. His sharp eyes scanned the room, instantly taking in the scene: his injured daughter on the floor, his crying granddaughter on the stairs, and David looming over them.

Arthur: I said step away from her, David.

David: General, listen to me, this isn't what it looks like...

Arthur stepped forward with explosive, unstoppable rage. He closed the distance in a fraction of a second, swinging his right hand and slapping David across the face with tremendous force.

David: AGH!

The impact echoed off the white walls as David stumbled sideways, crashing hard into the hallway table and knocking over a crystal vase. Before Evelyn could even react, Arthur turned sharply on his heel, his face contorted in righteous fury.

Evelyn: How dare you strike my son in his own house!

Arthur didn't say a word. He swung his hand again, delivering a heavy backhand slap directly across Evelyn's face.

Evelyn: OH!

The wine glass flew from Evelyn's fingers, shattering into dozens of pieces across the polished floorboards as she stumbled back into the doorframe, clutching her bruised cheek in total shock.

Evelyn: HOW DARE YOU HIT US!

David: You're insane! You can't just barge in here and assault us!

Arthur pointed an authoritative, trembling finger directly at both of them, his voice echoing through the high ceilings like thunder.

Arthur: YOU BOTH WILL REGRET THIS!

David: She tripped, General! She fell down the stairs on her own!

Arthur: Shut your mouth before I make sure you never speak again.

Arthur ignored their trembling figures and immediately knelt down beside Clara. His cold, stern demeanor vanished, replaced by gentle concern as he lifted her head softly onto his knee.

Arthur: Clara, sweetheart... look at me. I'm right here.

Clara: Dad... you came... you actually came...

Arthur: Of course I came, baby. Lily called me from the top of the stairs.

Lily scrambled down the remaining steps, avoiding the shattered glass, and threw her arms around her grandfather's neck, weeping loudly.

Lily: Grandpa! He pushed her! I saw him push her!

Arthur: Shh, it's okay, little one. Grandpa is here now. Nobody is ever going to hurt either of you again.

Evelyn: That child is lying! She's making up stories to protect her useless mother!

Arthur: Evelyn, if you speak one more word in front of my granddaughter, I will have my security detail drag you out of this house by your hair.

Evelyn cringed back against the wall, pressing her hand over her mouth in absolute terror as two uniformed military escorts stepped through the front door, standing at attention.
