The Stolen Heirloom Appears

The Hidden Photo On The Ballroom Floor banner

Lucas: Pick it up, Camila.

Camila: Pick what up? There's nothing there!

Lucas: The silver locket sitting right next to your designer compact. Pick it up and hand it to me.

Camila's body started shaking as she looked down at the shiny piece of jewelry resting among her makeup bottles. She didn't move an inch.

Camila: I... I bought that at an antique market last week!

Lucas: You told me a minute ago you had no idea what was in your bag.

Camila: I forgot I had it, alright?! It was a simple mistake!

Elena: It's not a mistake. It has my mother's initials carved inside the back cover. 'S.V.' for Sofia Vance.

Lucas dropped to one knee, reaching past the lipstick tubes to pick up the tarnished silver locket himself. He pressed the small side clasp, and the oval frame clicked open smoothly in his palm.

Lucas: Sofia Vance... my sister's real name.

Camila: Lucas, please! She's setting me up! She must have planted it in my bag when she bumped into me!

Lucas: You dumped the bag yourself, Camila. Nobody touched you.

Camila: I was angry! You know how my temper gets when staff members are careless!

Lucas: You dumped it because you wanted to humiliate a young girl, and instead, you exposed your own theft.

Elena wiped the fresh tears from her red cheeks, taking a small, hesitant step toward Lucas as he held the open locket.

Elena: My mother passed away in the hospital three years ago, sir. She worked as a housekeeper her whole life just to pay for my school books.

Lucas: Three years ago... the exact same time Camila showed up at my estate claiming my sister had died in Europe without any children.

Camila: Sofia did die in Europe! I have the official death certificate in my home safe!

Lucas: A certificate you paid fifty thousand dollars to forge, I assume?

Camila: That's a complete lie! I loved Sofia like a sister!

Elena: You didn't love her! You were her landlord's daughter! You took all her papers when she got sick!

The entire ballroom went dead silent as Elena's voice echoed off the high gold ceilings. Camila's face turned completely white, her hands dropping to her sides.

Camila: You... you don't know what you're talking about, you little rat!

Elena: I remember your face, Camila. You came to our small apartment with two men and took my mother's trunk while she was in the emergency room.

Lucas: Is this true, Camila?

Camila: No! She was just a kid back then! How could she possibly remember me?!

Elena: I remembered the scar on your left wrist from where my mother's dog bit you when you tried to grab her box.

Lucas looked immediately down at Camila's left arm. Underneath her heavy beaded sleeve, a faint red scar was clearly visible against her skin.
