The security guard reached out with a heavy leather-gloved hand, grabbing Arthur’s arm to force him back toward the sliding glass doors.
Arthur: Unhand me! Don't touch her! She can't walk!
Security Officer: I gave you a warning, old man! You're outta here!
Doctor: WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU ARE DOING?! STEP AWAY FROM THEM IMMEDIATELY!
A tall man in a crisp white lab coat and red tie sprinted down the hallway, his footsteps echoing against the polished marble floor.
The doctor shoved the security guard aside with full force, placing a protective arm around Arthur’s trembling shoulders.
Doctor: BRING HER INSIDE RIGHT NOW! THIS IS MY FATHER!
The guard stumbled backward against the wall, his jaw dropping open in utter shock as his face turned pale.
Security Officer: Doctor... I... I didn't know...
Arthur looked up into his son’s eyes, tears spilling down his weathered cheeks as a wave of relief washed over him.
Arthur: MICHAEL... MY SON...
Dr. Michael: I’m right here, Dad. I’m right here. Give Lily to me.
Michael carefully scooped his crying niece into his arms, checking the blood soaking through her dark denim pants.
Dr. Michael: We need a pediatric trauma bay set up in Room Four right now! Get an IV line ready and call orthopedics!
Nurse Sarah ran out from behind the counter, pushing a mobile stretcher toward them with immediate urgency.
Nurse Sarah: Right away, Chief of Surgery! Room Four is clear!
Michael turned toward the security guard, his eyes burning with cold, uncompromising rage.
Dr. Michael: YOU ARE SUSPENDED! GET OUT OF MY HOSPITAL!
Security Officer: Dr. Vance, please! He didn't tell me he was related to the Chief of Surgery! He looked like—
Dr. Michael: It doesn't matter what he looked like! Federal law states that every single human being who walks through those doors gets medical treatment regardless of their insurance!
Security Officer: Sir, the hospital administrator gave us strict orders about non-paying patients in the main lobby—
Dr. Michael: Hand over your badge to security dispatch and leave this building before I have the police arrest you for reckless endangerment of a minor!
The guard looked around at the gathering crowd of doctors, nurses, and patients, all glaring at him with complete contempt.
He pulled the brass badge off his chest, threw it onto the reception counter, and walked out into the rain with his head bowed down.
Michael placed his arm around his father’s back, guiding him swiftly down the bright hallway toward the trauma wing.
Dr. Michael: Come on, Dad. Let’s take care of Lily. You’re both safe now.
