The bright midday sun reflected off the glass facade of the airport terminal as luxury cars pulled up to the curb. Emily stood near the sliding doors in her beige suit, her heels clicking against the hardwood trim of the walkway. She checked her watch every few seconds, her heart beating fast against her ribs.
A sleek black car stopped right in front of her, and the back door swung open immediately.
Boys: MOMMY!
Emily: MY HANDSOME BOYS!
Emily dropped to her knees on the pavement, opening her arms wide as her three young sons sprinted toward her. Five-year-old Leo, four-year-old Toby, and three-year-old Sam threw their arms around her neck at the same time. Laughter echoed across the sidewalk as Emily pulled them close, kissing their cheeks one by one.
A few feet away, a man in a dark navy suit froze in his tracks. Ryan stood near the terminal entrance, his leather briefcase slipping from his hand and hitting the ground with a soft thud. His breath hitched as he stared at the woman embracing the three little boys.
Ryan: EMILY...
Tears welled up in Ryan's eyes as he stared at her face, his hands trembling at his sides. Hearing his voice, little Leo stopped hugging his mother and looked over her shoulder.
Leo: MOM, WHO IS THAT MAN?
Emily froze, the warm smile vanishing from her face as she turned her head slowly. Her eyes locked onto Ryan, her expression hardening into pure emotional intensity.
Ryan took a slow step forward, his gaze shifting from Emily's pale face down to the three young boys who shared his exact dark hair and blue eyes. Realization washed over him like a tidal wave.
Ryan: THEY'RE... MINE?
Emily stood up slowly, pulling all three children behind her legs as if to shield them from his view.
Emily: YOU LEFT US FIVE YEARS AGO, RYAN!
Ryan ignored the cold fury in her voice. Overcome with overwhelming love and five years of regret, he rushed forward and dropped to his knees right in front of them. He wrapped his arms around Emily and all three boys, pulling them into a tight, emotional embrace under the bright sun.
Ryan: I'M SO SORRY! I LOVE YOU ALL SO MUCH!
Emily gasped as his arms enveloped them, but as she looked down at his tear-streaked face, the heavy wall of anger in her chest began to crack. Would five years of painful secrets finally come to light today?
