A Father's True Vow

With Arthur gone, the boardroom fell into a calm, peaceful quiet. Ryan walked to the head of the long conference table, pulling out the massive master chair and helping Emily sit down.

Ryan: Gentlemen, as of today, I am assuming my role as chief executive trustee of Vance Enterprises.

Board Member 1: You have our full vote of confidence, Ryan. It's time this company returned to honest hands.

Ryan: My first official act will be to establish a permanent child trust fund for my sons, managed exclusively by Emily.

The board members clapped their hands in agreement, smiling at the three young boys who were now giggling and playing with the leather swiveling chairs.

An hour later, the family walked out of the corporate skyscraper into the warm afternoon sunshine.

The city park across the street was filled with green trees, bright flowers, and the sound of children playing on the playground.

Ryan took off his dark suit jacket, throwing it over his shoulder as he walked beside Emily across the grass.

Emily: You really did it, Ryan. You stood up to your whole family for us.

Ryan: I didn't stand up to my family, Emily. I stood up FOR my family. You four are the only family I will ever need.

Leo and Toby ran ahead toward the swing set, while little Sam rode comfortably on Ryan's shoulders, holding onto his father's hair.

Sam: Look, Mommy! I'm tall like Daddy now!

Emily laughed, her heart bursting with a warmth she hadn't felt in five long years.

Emily: You are very tall, sweetie!

Ryan stopped under the shade of a large oak tree, pulling a small velvet box from his inner pocket.

Emily gasped, her hands flying up to cover her mouth as Ryan dropped to one knee on the soft grass.

Emily: Ryan... what are you doing?

Ryan: Five years ago, I let a lie take away the best thing that ever happened to me. I promised myself that if I ever found you again, I would never let you go.

He opened the box, revealing a sparkling three-carat diamond ring that caught the bright sunlight.

Ryan: Emily Vance, will you marry me and let me spend every day of my life being the father our boys deserve and the husband you always needed?

Leo, Toby, and Sam ran back over, standing beside their father on the grass.

Leo: Say yes, Mom! Please say yes!

Tears of pure joy streamed down Emily's cheeks as she nodded her head repeatedly.

Emily: YES! Yes, Ryan! A thousand times yes!

Ryan stood up and slipped the ring onto her finger before pulling her into a passionate, loving kiss. The three boys cheered and wrapped their arms around their parents' legs, forming a tight, unbreakable circle under the bright sun.
