A New Standard Of Respect

When Clara arrived back at Lane 4, the junior guard was standing at the front of the line, speaking politely to an elderly woman holding a heavy suitcase.

Junior Guard: Let me lift that bag onto the belt for you, ma'am. No need to strain yourself.

Elderly Woman: Oh, thank you so much, young man! You are so sweet.

The junior guard looked up and saw Clara standing nearby, watching him with a approving nod.

He immediately stood straight, lowering his head respectfully.

Junior Guard: Director Sterling. All lanes are running smoothly now, ma'am.

Clara: You handled yourself well today, guard. What's your name?

Junior Guard: My name is Officer David Hayes, ma'am.

Clara: Well, Officer Hayes, you showed good judgment when your supervisor lost control. I respect that.

Officer Hayes: Thank you, Director. I just want to do my job right.

Clara: As of today, you are promoted to Acting Lane Supervisor for Shift A.

Officer Hayes stared at her in utter shock, his mouth opening slightly.

Officer Hayes: Supervisor? Ma'am... are you serious?

Clara: I don't joke about security operations, Hayes. You protected the public, and you stood up for what was right. That's the kind of leadership this airport needs.

Officer Hayes: Thank you, Director Sterling! I won't let you down!

Clara: I know you won't. Keep the line moving, Supervisor.

Clara walked through the metal detector, taking her bag from the belt and swinging it over her shoulder.

As she stepped through the final gate into the bright daylight of the departure concourse, passengers looked at her with admiration, knowing that one brave woman had just restored dignity and respect to the airport.
