Bright daylight filled the elegant dining room as family members gathered around the long table. Hardwood oak floors gleamed beneath the recessed lighting, and white crown molding framed the tall walls. What was supposed to be a peaceful Sunday dinner quickly turned into a battleground when Sarah stood up, her chair scraping loudly against the floor.
Sarah: KNOW YOUR PLACE IN THIS FAMILY!
Her voice echoed across the room, full of rage. She glared down at Hannah, who sat quietly in her pink dress across the table. Before anyone could react, Sarah reached across the floral centerpiece, grabbed a large white frosted cake, and smashed it forcefully across the table. Frosting and shattered glass flew everywhere, startling the guests as young children began to cry in panic.
Hannah: WE'RE LEAVING RIGHT NOW!
Hannah stood up abruptly, her eyes brimming with tears. She grabbed her two young sons, Leo and Toby, tightly by their hands. As she pulled them toward the doorway, David rushed forward in his dark suit. He grabbed her arm frantically, trying to block her path to stop her from stepping into the hallway.
David: I AM SORRY! PLEASE STAY!
Hannah: Let go of me, David!
David: PLEASE DON'T GO! I WAS WRONG, PLEASE STAY!
David held her hands tightly, pleading with tearful desperation while the two boys clung to their mother's side. Hannah pulled her hands away firmly, glaring at him with cold determination. She reached into her handbag and pulled out a sealed brown envelope, holding it up right in front of his face.
Hannah: TOUCH ME AGAIN AND YOU'LL EXPLAIN IT TO THE POLICE!
David: YOU FOUND IT?!
David stared at the envelope in utter shock, his face turning pale as paper. Hannah turned on her heel and walked out, leaving the silent dining room behind her, carrying a secret that was about to ruin everything the family had built.
