Sarah: How did she get into the safe, David?!
David: I don't know! I kept the key in my private study office desk!
Sarah: You idiot! You let her take the only thing protecting us from poverty!
David sat down heavily on a dining chair, staring at the ruined cake on the floor.
David: It doesn't matter anymore, Sarah. She has the original copy signed by Father's lawyer.
Sarah: We can hire a divorce lawyer! We can say she stole it!
David: Stealing your own children's inheritance document? No judge in this state is going to believe that.
Sarah: We have to stop her before she goes to the police or the bank!
David: She told me if I touched her again, she'd call the police. She means it, Sarah.
Sarah walked over to her brother, grabbing his shoulders forcefully.
Sarah: Think, David! If that document is verified by the probate court tomorrow morning, I lose my allowance! The mortgage on my condo won't be paid!
David: You should have thought about that before you smashed a cake in her face and insulted her in front of fifty people!
Sarah: I didn't know she was holding our entire future in her purse!
David: You treated her like dirt for five years, Sarah! You called her a gold digger, a nobody, a simple school teacher!
Sarah: Because she didn't come from money!
David: She was the only person who actually cared about Father when he was sick in the hospital! You were in Miami buying designer bags with stolen charity money!
Sarah slapped David across his cheek. The sharp sound echoed through the high-ceilinged room.
Sarah: Don't you dare talk to me like that! I am your older sister!
David didn't even flinch. He just looked at her with hollow, empty eyes.
David: Go home, Sarah.
Sarah: I am not going home! We are driving to her apartment right now and getting that envelope back!
David: I am not breaking into my wife's home to commit a felony for you.
Sarah: If I go down for the charity money, David, I am telling the authorities that you helped me forge the fake will three years ago!
David looked up slowly, his eyes filled with shock.
David: You would ruin my life too?
Sarah: You signed the probate documents with me, brother. We go to prison together, or we fix this together.
David stood up slowly, wiping his face with a linen napkin.
David: Get your coat, Sarah.
Sarah: Where are we going?
David: To see Mr. Sterling, Father's old estate lawyer. We need to know how much time we have before Hannah files that trust.
