David: What do you mean?
Hannah: If you cooperate fully with the forensic auditors, hand over every bank statement from the charity account, and resign from the board of directors, my lawyer will ask the prosecutor for leniency for you.
David: What about Sarah?
Hannah: Sarah stole six hundred thousand dollars from a children's medical charity, David. She will face the full consequences of the law.
David: She's my sister, Hannah...
Hannah: And Leo and Toby are your sons, David! It's time for you to decide who you care about more!
David looked down at his polished shoes, the cold night air biting against his skin. After a long silence, he slowly looked back up at his wife.
David: I'll give Mr. Sterling all the private passwords and files tonight.
Hannah: Good.
David: Can I... can I see the boys before I go?
Hannah: No, David. Not tonight. They were terrified by what happened at the dining table. They need time to feel safe again.
David: Will I ever be able to see them again?
Hannah: Once the court appoints a supervisor and you complete your legal obligations to the trust, we can discuss supervised visitation.
David nodded slowly, wiping his eyes with the back of his hand.
David: Thank you, Hannah. Thank you for not completely destroying me.
Hannah: I'm not doing this to destroy you, David. I'm doing this to protect your father's legacy and secure our children's future.
Hannah gently closed the apartment door, locking the deadbolt with a clear, sharp click that echoed in the quiet hallway.
David walked slowly back down the concrete steps to his sedan. Sarah rolled down her window as he approached, her face tight with anxiety.
Sarah: Did she agree to drop the charges?! Did you get the document back?!
David opened the driver's door, stepping inside without looking at her.
David: Buckle your seatbelt, Sarah.
Sarah: David! Answer me! What did she say?!
David: I'm driving us straight to the police station to hand over the charity account ledgers.
Sarah shrieked in terror, grabbing his arm frantically.
Sarah: Are you insane?! You're betraying your own sister?!
David: I'm finally doing what Father wanted me to do three years ago, Sarah. Unhand me before I drive off the road.
Sarah let go of his arm, collapsing into the passenger seat as hysterical tears streamed down her cheeks.
David started the engine and drove into the dark city night, knowing that his old life of lies was officially over.
