The Desperate Phone Call

Arthur: Shut your mouth! Don't you ever say that!

Leo: It's the truth.

Arthur: Give me the phone, Charles.

Charles: Here you go, Mr. Sterling.

Arthur dialed the number with shaking fingers, putting the phone on speaker.

Dr. Evans: Arthur? Are you at the airport yet?

Arthur: No, Doctor. We are trapped at the estate.

Dr. Evans: Trapped? What do you mean?

Arthur: The ambulance is stuck in the mud.

Dr. Evans: You need to get her to a hospital immediately.

Arthur: I am trying! Can you fly a helicopter here?

Dr. Evans: The storm over the city grounded all civilian flights.

Arthur: I will buy the helicopter company! Just get it in the air!

Dr. Evans: It's not about money, Arthur. It's about weather.

Arthur: So what do I do?

Dr. Evans: Tell me her symptoms.

Arthur: She is crying. Her stomach is hard as a rock.

Dr. Evans: Is she bleeding?

Arthur: I don't know. Eleanor, are you bleeding?

Eleanor: I can't tell. Everything is numb.

Dr. Evans: Her blood pressure is dropping dangerously low.

Arthur: Fix it! Tell me how to fix it!

Dr. Evans: I can't fix this over the phone.

Arthur: You are the head of the hospital!

Dr. Evans: If you don't get her an IV in the next ten minutes, Arthur...

Arthur: Finish the sentence, Doctor.

Dr. Evans: You will lose them both.

Arthur dropped the phone onto the floor, his face drained of all color.

Arthur: No. No, no, no.

Eleanor: Arthur... look at me.

Arthur: I'm here. I'm right here.

Eleanor: If it comes down to it... save the baby.

Arthur: Don't talk like that. We are not making a choice.

Eleanor: Promise me, Arthur. Promise me you'll use the trust fund for her.

Arthur: Stop talking about money! I just want you.

Eleanor: I love you so much.

Eleanor closed her eyes, her breathing becoming dangerously shallow.

Arthur: Eleanor? Wake up! Charles, do something!

Charles: I don't know medical procedures, sir!

Arthur: Somebody do something!

Leo stepped forward, his dirty boots making soft squeaks on the polished wood.
