Stripping The Family Legacy

Sheriff Davis: Alright, folks. Time is up. Please step toward the main entrance.

Victoria: My coats! My designer handbags! I haven't packed anything yet!

Sheriff Davis: Any property remaining on the premises will be stored in a county warehouse until probate resolves the ownership claims. Move along.

Two deputies stepped forward, guiding Victoria and Julian toward the front doors by their elbows. Victoria sobbed hysterically, her red silk dress dragging along the hardwood floor she had bragged about owning for twenty years.

Victoria: You ruined my life, Clara! You're a monster!

Clara: You ruined your own life when you decided that poor people don't deserve respect, Victoria.

Julian looked back at Clara one last time, his eyes filled with deep regret and embarrassment as the deputies escorted him out into the daylight.

Julian: Clara... I'm sorry.

Clara: Save your apologies for court, Julian.

Richard stood up slowly, wiping his eyes with his handkerchief as he looked around the grand hall one final time.

Richard: Arthur would be proud of you, Clara. You have his strength.

Clara: My father was a good man, Richard. It's a shame you forgot what he stood for.

Richard bowed his head in silence, turning and walking out through the grand double doors without saying another word. The heavy doors clicked shut behind him, leaving Clara and Mr. Harrison alone in the vast, quiet mansion.

Mr. Harrison: The locksmiths are in the driveway, Miss Hayes. They will change every lock on the property within the hour.

Clara: Thank you, Mr. Harrison. Please make sure the staff receive their full back pay and bonuses by tomorrow morning.

Mr. Harrison: Right away, ma'am. What would you like to do with your uniform?

Clara unpinned the small brass name tag from her blue maid's uniform, looking at it with a quiet smile before dropping it onto the marble table in the foyer.

Clara: Keep it in the display case near the front entrance, Mr. Harrison. I want it to remind me never to let anyone treat me like I don't belong in my own home.
