The bright daylight streamed through the tall glass windows of the grand mansion foyer, lighting up the cold marble floors.
Seven-year-old Lily sat still in her silver wheelchair, her pink dress spread over her lap. Her legs had been completely paralyzed since a car accident two years ago, leaving her unable to stand or walk.
A ten-year-old boy named Leo stood a few feet away. His clothes were torn and covered in dust, and his shoes were worn out at the toes. He looked out of place in the luxurious hallway, surrounded by wealthy guests and security guards.
Leo slowly walked toward Lily, holding his right hand out with a look of deep concentration.
Lily: Who are you?
Leo: I'm Leo. I came here with the delivery truck from the bakery down the street.
Lily: Why are you looking at my legs like that?
Leo: I can see something wrong. I can help you if you let me touch your hand.
Richard: Hey! Get away from my daughter right now!
A wealthy man in a green velvet tuxedo stepped forward aggressively, his face red with anger. Richard Vance shoved the young boy back by his chest, sending him stumbling across the marble floor.
Richard: How did a dirty street kid get inside my house? Guards!
Leo: Wait! Please don't throw me out! I can fix her legs! Let me help her!
Richard: Fix her legs? The best doctors in New York couldn't fix her legs! You're just a filthy brat trying to beg for money!
Leo: I don't want your money! Just give me five seconds!
Ignoring Richard's shouts, Leo stepped forward gently. He dropped to his knees in front of the wheelchair and took Lily's small, trembling hand in his own.
Lily: Please... daddy, stop yelling. Do you want to try, Leo?
Leo: Hold tight, Lily. It's going to feel warm.
A faint glow radiated from their hands as Leo focused his energy. A soft chime echoed through the quiet foyer as Lily gasped, her fingers clutching the armrests as a strange sensation rushed down to her toes.
Lily: Daddy... I can feel my feet! I can feel the floor!
Lily pushed herself up, her knees straightening as she stood on her own two feet for the first time in two years. The entire room went dead silent as Richard dropped to his knees in total shock, weeping as his daughter took her first step toward the poor boy who had just changed their lives forever.
